Tori and Australia’s Sunrise
Tori performed on Australia’s morning talk show “Sunrise” this a.m., playing Roosterspur Bridge (the new release?) and Taxi Ride. And God bless the Sunrise hosts, they invited Tori over to the couch for an interview too!
Its always good to wake up to a Tori performance early in the morning (thanks to Undented for getting it up so fast!). She sang Roosterspur Bridge, making a lot of eye contact with the camera…or her Ears with Feet, whichever you prefer. Taxi Ride was a surprise…wonder how that “girl” ended up surfacing. She performed both songs sans band and she looked very peaceful.
During the interview segment, Tori was asked to describe the personas on American Doll Posse. She explains that the girls were based on Greek mythology. She describes Pip as Athena the warrior (who likes to wear rubber), Clyde as Persephone the introspective girl, Isabel as Artemus the political one, Santa as the “saucy wench” who brings presents for everyone, and Tori as Demeter…the Creator.
The hosts tell the audience that, by the end of the year, she will have performed 1000 shows worldwide. When asked which show has been her favorite, Tori (who didn’t have to think long) said Tel Aviv, as she had been told not to but, of course, did anyway because she “plays for the fans and not governments.” She laughed as said if she couldn’t play boycotted countries, she wouldn’t be able to play in her own country. She told the hosts that she was impressed with how liberal the young people in Tel Aviv were and how rewarding it was to play for them.
And, of course, the hosts asked about her Britney song. Tori said that she had written that song just before going on stage…that she almost channeled the song. She said, “Britney they set you up, but you set yourself up. And you may be a mother but you still need a mother to pick you up when it all falls down.” She went on to explain her suspicions about Britney’s record company–that never in a million years would a record company let their star go on stage without having practiced extensively, almost to the point of exhaustion. Tori said she had to practice 6 hours a day for 14 months before she went on tour–that Britney’s label even let her perform given her state of mind is an indication that they were setting her up to fail. Again, Tori refers to the fact that Britney’s contract must be running up and this whole thing is a scheme to let Britney go.
I perused atforums.com last night and gather that Toriphiles have mixed feelings about Tori commenting on these young pop stars so frequently during her appearances. Maybe Tori got it out of her system this morning. If not, at least she’s writing cool little ditties for us to hum a long to
For the moment, Sunrise has the video up on their website if’n you wanna watch.
