Arizona Welcomes Tori Amos (with a good interview!)

Strange = inspiration for DollsAlthough short Tori Amos interviews always leave me wanting more…this one was cute enough to be post worthy.

An Arizona entertainment news blog posted a brief conversation with Tori in which she discusses the “dolls” and the inspirations behind the looks. Other topics include the state of pop stardom, Hilary’s chances, and Tori’s future (or lack thereof) as an actress.

Question numero uno: When did the dolls come together…a long time ago, or when the album was born?

Tori points to Kevyn Aucoin’s work with her Strange Little Girls album as “practice” for her Doll work. Looking at herself as the Strange girls she began to wonder…hey, if I can change this much on the outside, I must be able to do it on the inside.

Dos: Does what a woman wear really say something about her?

Tori says, “Duh.”

Question numero tres: Does it bother you that the world is so obsessed with teen queens and the like?

Obsession is one thing, Tori postulates. You can be obsessed over someone and it be more like idolizing. And idolizing is okay. (Thank god!). Talent is worthy of such attention. But when the obsession is over watching someone fall from grace…watching them destroy their lives. That is just plain sick, she says.

Quatro: Opinion of Hilary?

We need strength in this country, she says. And there have been many a strong woman in positions of power–Queen Elizabeth and Margaret Thatcher. Hilary, she suggests, is a strong woman too.

Cinco, Seis, Siete, yo: When do you decide which doll to be? Do you go into full-on character acting mode? Does acting interest you?

Anywhere until an hour before showtime. Not acting so much as it is connecting with various parts of myself. And, hell to the no…no acting for this red head.
