American Doll Posse
Tori Amos Biography Part 11
Tori released her most recent studio album, American Doll Posse, on May 1, 2007. Tori has been quoted as saying that, with the culmination of her past work in the A Piano boxed set, American Doll Posse marks the beginning of an entirely new era. The new album debuted in the US at #5, although it has yet to outsell The Beekeeper.
For this album, Tori created a “posse” of girls, Clyde, Sanda, Pip, Isabel, and…yep, Tori. Tori took each persona quite seriously, devoting entire blogs to each character on her official website. These character portrayals are reminiscent of her Strange Little Girls concept, although Tori has fleshed out these personas much more. Isabel is a photographer who attempts to capture a persons true self, Clyde is the resident complicated relationship-decipherer, Santa is the forever optimist, Pip is captivated by the darkness of all things, and Tori transcribes the souls of thousands into song.
On this album, Tori experimented with sound, bringing back the Wurlitzer, using new microphones and different pianos and keyboards. She released Big Wheel and Bouncing off Clouds almost simultaneously, although Big Wheel has received more airplay in the states while Bouncing of Clouds is being promoted in the UK. A video for Big Wheel soon popped up on Yahoo! Music, a compilation of strategically placed photo stills of each character set to motion to the beat of the song.
As of this writing, Tori is currently touring with ADP. She spends most of the evening as “Tori,” sporting a red wig as if to portray a caricature of herself, and a small portion of the concert as another one of the “girls.” She is touring with the band, although she plays solo during a segment titled “T & Bo” for Tori & Bosendorfer piano.
