Crazy Tori Amos Fans Inspire Musicians

Random Tori Pic for Random PostJumpin’ around on Technorati today, I came across a blog post on a site titled “The Tripwire” which reviews new music, presumably off of independent labels (power to the people, yo). This posts describes a new release by the band Office titled “A Night at the Ritz.” Supposedly, the first verse to the song “Oh My” is inspired by a “crazed Tori Amos fan.” Or, more specifically, a date the singer had with an emotionally unstable Tori Amos fan. While I was left guessing, the blogger thought this was self-explanatory, parenthetically stating “enough said.”

I youtubed the ditty, and here are the lyrics to the first verse:

caught in a rug
we’re caught like little bugs
stuck in a web
as we cut off our legs and heads
people look ’round
we’re down on the ground
our pain is painted deep
the rain comes down
like &*^& and *(&#W@ (I can’t understand it…)

(I don’t see why the guy didn’t like Tori Amos or her fans…these lyrics are very Tori-like, especially because I apparently need the CD booklet to understand what is being sung).

On their website, the lyricist for the Office writes:

This song was inspired by a date I had with a girl from Oak Park, IL…and she was beautiful, and uber-smart. Unfortunately, she listened to Tori Amos incessantly, so I simply couldn’t continue dating her due of this very fact. (People who live and breathe Tori Amos have wronged me in the past!) I remember her pupils eagerly gazing through my soul from across the dinner table. She was a little off her rocker, I think…

I don’t have many thoughts on the subject. I’ve stopped being offended by being labeled “another crazy Tori Amos fan.” I embrace it, actually. But I thought it was an interesting Tori sighting. Apparently we can rub people the wrong way :)

Obviously there are 4 kinds of people in the world. Sane people who love Tori Amos. Crazy people who love Tori Amos. People who have been wounded by Tori Amos fans. And people who don’t even know who Tori Amos is. I feel the most pity for those in the latter group.

Does anyone know the last line to this verse? Google is at a lost for dredging me up some lyrics.

What are your thoughts?
