San Diego, CA

Featured Dolls: Santa AND Isabel!
Rating: 4.9 out of 5 wigs

San D, CA. Again one of the top three boots, just for controversial reasons. And you get two dolls! Woohoo! Santa and Isabel! They only do one ‘original’ each the rest is like the best of the tour. You get some funky Dan Phelps bass on She’s Your Cocaine, it is so fricken’ hot, my god! Get this boot! The performances are absolutely superb.

Matt Chamberlain’s improv. at the beginning of Hootchie Woman is amazing. I love that man and I want to have his children. And I love the fact that Tori allows the band to improvise and add to her creativity on stage, it really does create a fantastic and unpredictable atmosphere, and makes every performance special. And an extended outro of Raspberry Swirl and into Yo George. And a crystal clear version of Doughnut Song. The other versions all have their slight faults, maybe the keyboard/guitar is a fraction out, maybe the vocal are a bit dry, but this is perfection.

Tori does little piano improvs and vocally does a little “come in Houston,” improv. and just hits it. My favourite performance of the tour. And some Twinkle and Leather, a solid version of Your Cloud, some Virginia, and before I get to the Code Red incident, a lovely Space Dog, and a cool Precious Things/HJ. The Code Red incident has to one of the most talked about Tori incidents of late, mainly thanks to the ejected patron posting biting comments on her myspace page. Whatever. It goes along swimmingly, like all Code Red’s do. And then you hear Tori stop everything and say “get the fuck out of my show,” but you’ve already seen that on youtube. What many people don’t stay to listen to is the absolute killer version of Code Red that Tori does. She is absolutely seething and rolling her r’s like a Frenchman, “Code Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeed staring at me!” It is nine minutes of power!

  1. Thanks for all your suggestions & the Top Pick summary! They helped me make a mad dash for the boots before the site goes down tomorrow. Cheers :)

  2. You’re welcome, Val!

  3. Thanks for all your reviews. I’m trying to narrow myself down as we speak. I’ve already bought Chicago 2, San Diego, Vancouver and Pitts, and totally agree they are fantastic. RIght now I’m trying to decide which Boston– I want etienne and seaside, but also want that damn well/ocean improv. Ergh!

  4. Props go to Kelli :) But thanks, Bea! Isn’t it great that T. put out these albums? Its like the tour never ends…
