Site News: Tori Amos Song Page Update
When I started this blog/site/home for my obsession, I knew I wanted to launch with 100 pages. To do that, I pulled all of my Tori Amos albums off of the shelf (they’ve been gathering dust since the advent of the iPod) to start summarizing the meaning behind each Tori Amos song.
I quickly realized that this was going to be a task. Not only did I assume I knew what every song was about (I have been a fan for 11 years, afterall), but I also assumed that it wouldn’t take very long. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I kept trucking though, deciding that the song pages would be home to a brief, cursory description of each song and allow Tori (via quotes) and fans (who post forums and song interp sites) to flesh out the details, provoke discussion, and encourage a thoughtful consideration of each of T’s utterances. I throw my two cents in, too.
The song pages are meant to provide new-budding Tori fans with a starting place on their journey toward deciphering her message. I am by no means asserting that YouForAWhile holds key to Tori’s lyrics. Tori writes so her fans can interpret her lyrics to suit their own needs–there is no “right” answer.
I started with Little Earthquakes and just this evening Boys for Pele was finished. I thought I’d take this opportunity to point everyone in that direction. Comments are welcome. Look for updates as the albums are completed.
Happy Reading!
