Way Down
Music and Lyrics by: Tori Amos
Instrumentation: Vocals, Acoustic Piano (Bosendorfer), Gospel Choir
Brief Summary: A brief but beautiful interlude song, Way Down represents a descent into some sort of darkness after having ignored the obvious for too long…Like a rug has been swept out from under one’s feet. Tori believes this to be a pivot point of the album…from being in love and then angry to being sad and depressed.
Tori’s Comments: “And the album going into Hey Jupiter and that is the point where she knows it’s over with this particular relationship…That’s where the whole record turns on its axis. As soon as she knows that, then you do the whole ‘Way Down’ thing.”
Fan Comments/Interpretations: Being such a short song, not as many fans have commented publicly on Way Down. However, it appears that some see this song as some sort of commentary on what it is like to be famous, i.e. wanting to be famous for so long, willing to do whatever it takes and, once there, having to do whatever it takes, no matter how bad, to stay there…
China2Ny’s Comments: I’m know I’m not alone in wishing this song were a lot longer.
