you for a while

Just caught the last 10 or so minutes of Tori Amos’ Live Chat on her website and, I don’t know what the popular opinion is, but it was the most amazing non-music thing I’ve seen her do in a long time. Possibly ever (with the exception of the Trio f**k up video on YouTube).

This is the most “real” I’ve seen her. She was talking to us like you would talk to someone across the cubicle at work. She’s ever let down her guard this much. It always seems like she feels pressure to express deep, meaningful thoughts in all her interviews. But here, with so much going on, she had seconds to come up with a response and she sounded…like me! Or you! Or the girl who does my hair! I’ve never felt this close to Tori. *sigh*

I hope she thinks it went well, and that most Tori fans think it went well, because I cannot wait for the next live chat!

Time to disclaim: Most Tori Amos fans love her because of her etherealness, her tendency to wax poetic (cryptically poetic) in interviews, and because she demonstrates such intellect and wisdom in her speech. This is why her music is so successful–it boasts these same qualities. A vapid Tori will never do. However, for just these few minutes it was surprisingly refreshing to catch a glimpse of “girlfriend” Tori. The wig is the only thing that prevents me from actually thinking we could go shoe shopping together. The wig serves its purpose, but it does kind of put a damper on the whole “Tori Amos: Herself” feel.

Please…God, let someone have videotaped this and be courteous enough to post it on YouTube with HASTE! Must see the entire shindig.
