Boston (Night 1) is Pipilicious: Tori Amos Concert Review

Pip opened in BostonPip opened last night (10-18-07) at the Orpheum Theater in Boston. Ms. Pip’s set list included Cruel (which seems to be a song Pip and Santa share), Fat Slut, Teenage Hustling, and Waitress…among others. Fellow Ears with Feet report that Pip’s set was amazing, powerful, and “ass-kicking.” We’ve come to expect no less from the tomahawk-wielding vamp.

Tori debuted Jackie’s Strength and Concertina (didn’t she say during the live chat that she and the guys were working on Concertina?). She also played Etienne, a rarity which I hope she plays at the show I go to, Digital Ghost, Cornflake Girl, Hotel, and Precious Things. With the exception of PT and Crucify, Little Earthquakes didn’t get much love, but…you gotta promote the new album, ya know (as if she needs any promoting!).

Wish I would have been there for the improv tonight. Beauty Queen Miss Massachusetts was in the audience and T. spotlighted and serenaded her with a little diddy asking her who she preferred: Her or Donald Trump.

There is some concern that, since official boots are recorded at every show, Tori is a bit nervous…playing it safe out of fear of messing up. That, and people are even MORE annoyed at the screamers who ruin the boots with their, um, outbursts of emotion. I’ll try to get a feel for these immensely important issues (he he he) when I see her on the 28th…perhaps the live boots, while fans flock to them, aren’t such a good idea after all? I don’t know. But I’m not a big boot-listener (I have a few good ones with cool improvs that I like, but I don’t collect boots as a rule) so maybe I should keep my mouth shut on the issue!
