Pip Rocks Orlando’s Socks: Tori Amos Concert Review

Pip, rockin' and rollin'Pip opened the Orlando show Friday night (11-16-07) at the local Hard Rock Cafe. You could almost have bet your life savings that it would have been Pip to take the stage at any venue with the word “rock” in its name.

Ms. Pip’s set included the ever-present Cruel, Teenage Hustling, and Fat Slut in addition to a rarely-played Heart of Gold. I may be mistaken, but this seems to be the only Strange Little Girl song to be getting any love on this tour. Fans describe Pip’s performance as true to her “f**k you” style, so incredibly different from the almost bubbly Tori. Supposedly, you haven’t lived until you’ve heard Pip do Smokey Joe live…and I believe it. Man, if I could just swing the money and time for one more ADP show!

After the don’t-forget-to-pop-in-your-ecstasy mix of Professional Widow, orange-wigged Tori came out to delight her already pumped audience with an amazing debut-filled, Under The Pink-heavy set list. Highlights (at least from my perspective) included Doughnut Song, Caught a Lite Sneeze and, saving the best 2 for last–NOT DAVID BOWIE (during the encore), and A Case of You (during T & Bo). A Case of Freakin’ You. I actually might have traded Take me With You which she played at the Louisville show for ACOY…might have. And, damn. No Legs and Boots for this show either.

T & Bo also saw the debut of Toast, the closer on The Beekeeper. Why Toast? I’ve thought about it and think it may have something to do with Tori being in Florida. Both Tori and her parents have homes in Florida and perhaps the Reverend and Ms. Amos’ were hanging around there somewhere. Since Toast was written for Tori’s brother who passed away unexpectedly, perhaps this debut was meant as a comfort for her parents who must still be grieving. But…that could be taking it too far. Maybe she was just in the mood!

But I digress from my utter shock and awe that she played A Case of You and Not David Bowie in the same show. See the complete Orlando setlist below.

Fans say that Tori sounded and looked absolutely wonderful (the sound system at the Hard Rock is amazing, I hear). The crowd may have been a little more raucous than a typical Tori Amos concert crowd, due to it having been a general admission show…but something tells me that Tori (and Pip) demanded everyone’s undivided attention.

And it looks like Tori Amos is going to hang out in Florida for a little while. There are 5 shows in the Sunshine State. Welcome to Tori’s Sunny Florida.
